Look back at 2023 with us
We would like you to join us as we look back at 2023. It has been a wonderful year for us at Kara, and we are excited and ready to kick start our 2024 journey. We have brought new scrubs to the UK market, raised money for charity and more. The hard work of our team have made all of this possible.
Scrubs photoshoot & improved sizing
At the start of 2023, we had a photoshoot to showcase our range of NHS Essential scrubs, which are supplied to hospitals and clinics across the UK. We decided it was time to revamp our product photos, so we organised a photoshoot to showcase the extensive colour options from the full range.
We heard our customer’s feedback, and this guided us towards improving sizing for a more user-friendly scrubs shopping experience. The team have worked hard to understand your needs. Our scrubs with improved sizing and fit are due to launch in 2024.
Added more sustainable scrubs to the catalogue
Sustainability is very important within the clothing industry, and scrubs are no exception. This year, we added the Wink Thrive range to our catalogue. A range comprising of tops and trousers made from 100% recycled fabric. As well as being recycled, this range has HEIQ Eco Dry protection, making them water repellent and more durable.
Thrive scrubs are stretchy, with high abrasion resistance. Allowing them last longer than some traditional scrubs, keeping them in your work wardrobe and away from landfill. Read more about the range.
Introduced warehouse barcoding system while delivering record orders
After much research and planning, our warehouse implemented a new barcoding system to increase the accuracy and speed and packing and despatching your orders. Our team took these changes in their stride, consistently worked hard to get to know the new system.
It is now easier to locate products, time is saved and the team found that there is improved accountability and traceability. Despite the challenges of implementing this new system, the logistics team were still able to process a record number of orders in 2023!
They worked extremely hard to pack and despatch scrub orders to reach our customers on time, even whilst the new systems were still being integrated; a fantastic effort!
Installed solar panels at our warehouse
As part of our ongoing sustainability improvements, we installed brand new solar panels at our warehouse facility last year. Solar energy is both reliable and renewable, allowing us to send out your scrubs without disruption. In addition to installing the solar panels, we also replaced a large 30,000 sq. ft roof with modern, high insulated materials, which increased the energy efficiency of the building. This has reduced heat loss and improved the buildings natural light.
We have also completed our Carbon Footprint Analysis for the year end 2022, as well as building our first complete Carbon Reduction Plan for 2023. This will now be annually updated with our ambitious environmental targets.
Started sponsoring local homeless charity
Beyond business, we engaged with our local community by supporting Happy Days, who are a Halifax based charity dedicated to supporting the local homeless community. Back in December, some of the team dropped of an initial donation of hypothermia prevention blankets, as the homeless population are at a higher risk of developing hypothermia in the cold, wet weather.
In addition to the donation, as a company, we signed up to be a member of the Happy Days Foundation Club, making a monthly donation to the cause. Learn more about Happy Days.
We “Wore It Pink” for charity
The team got together to take part in the Breast Cancer Awareness initiative #WearItPink! We made a donation to wear our best pink clothing to work, as well as bringing delicious pink desserts. Our donation box filled up throughout the day as we donated per treat.
The company kindly matched then enhanced the teams collective donation. You can read more about how it went.
2024 at Kara
After a great year, we are looking to the future and what 2024 will bring for us at Kara. We are looking forward to providing more high quality scrubs to our customers, working on our website and maintaining our commitment to supporting local charities.
